Building a Wine Cellar with Cigar Humidor in a Modern Home in Newport Beach, California

At Coastal Custom Wine Cellars, Andre and his team share their strategies on creating the best wine cellar designs for one of their customers in Newport Beach, California. They perform an actual site visit of their client’s home, which was newly renovated into the most contemporary house in their neighborhood in Port Street. Since the husband also had a fondness for cigars, they added a personal touch by putting up a cigar humidor in the wine cellar. Andre and his team delve into details on how they carefully crafted and engineered the room, the pegs and panels used to match with the contemporary design of the house, meet the clients’ preferences through the unique and complementary custom built cigar humidor, and provide the best wine and cigar storage solutions through proper temperature systems.

Planning the Design of a Wine Cellar with Cigar Humidor that Suits Customers’ Preference

Wine cellars built in homes have become a growing trend in California. Aside from putting more value to the house, wine cellars are built because of the increasing demand of people drinking and collecting wines in their homes. In the case of our particular client with the contemporary house design in Port Street, the wife enjoys wine and her husband is fond of cigars. They wanted to have a wine cellar built in their home, so that they could host small gatherings and dinners with friends and families. More specifically, they wanted a wine storage structure that could also store cigars.

With the information at hand, Andre and the whole team brainstormed for ideas to create the perfect wine cellar that would suit the clients’ hobbies and interests. While most clients have existing collections of wines, it wasn’t the case for the couple, and it made the project even more challenging for the team. To meet the clients’ wants, the team created a modern and minimal wine cellar design with a cigar humidor to properly store and display their cigarettes.

Modern and Minimal Wine Cellar Design with a Built-in Cigar Humidor for a Personalized Touch

To cater to the husband’s cigar collection, our team installed a cigar humidor in the wine cellar room. it was the perfect opportunity for the team to customize the wine cellar with none other than a built-in cigar humidor. The cigars are stored and displayed in a specific area in the room and separated through glass framed in stainless steel. A humidor is used to allow fresh air to circulate and keep the tobacco in perfect condition. Cigars have different room temperature requirements from wines, so a cigar humidor was necessary if they were to be displayed in the wine cellar.

A transparent cabinet in polished framed glass carefully displayed the cigar collection. At the bottom covered in the drawer is a customized humidifier from US Cellar System that naturally regulates the flow of air in the cigar cabinet. A humidifier is needed because cigars should be stored at around 70’F and 65-72% in humidity. They specifically made sure to install a humidifier that doesn’t need to be regularly maintained. Most humidifiers require daily to weekly changing of filters and adding of water. Andre tapped cold water into the humidification system so water automatically adds in whenever it runs out of water Thus, no more need for regular water check-ups.

It was a unique design because Andre and his team had never done something like it. Incorporating trendy modern designs with customer preference makes the wine cellar more personalized and provide the perfect ambience that fit the couple’s interests. Plus, the team gets to be creative in coming up with new designs that meet customer demands. Not only can they host wine nights with family friends, but also have the place for their smoking leisure.

Getting into the Tiny Details that Make Up the Perfect Modern Wine Cellar with Cigar Humidor

You are welcomed with a full coverage of the magnificent display of wines through a huge frameless glass with two panels and a glass door on the left to enter the wine cellar and cigar humidor. The wines are beautifully lit with LED lights installed within the wall interiors where the wines are displayed. This is one of Andre’s first projects that he used this type of light panel which illuminates through the wall with the Lutron system. The Lutron system is used for dynamic lighting to create the perfect environment for indoor spaces.

The pegs installed are chrome built and polished stainless steel. The wines are positioned in a way that makes them look like they are floating, adding more to the ambience and design of the modern home wine cellar. At the bottom-middle portion are reveal racks installed to display more wines in a more readable way.
