Custom Wine Cellar Irvine CA Garage

This Custom Wine Cellar Irvine CA Garage project involved converting a section of a four-car garage into a wine storage room and a pantry mini wine cellar. The goal was to create a functional, storage-oriented wine cellar with maximum capacity. The wine racking was built using multi-toned premium redwood, featuring diamond and square bins for bulk storage. The garage-based cellar is cooled to a constant 57°F using a Cellar Pro wine cellar cooling unit. The design also includes a solid panel, exterior rated Barolo Style Custom Wine Cellar Door made of Alder to maintain a constant climate in the wine room. A 3D design package was provided to help clients visualize their wine cellar before committing to the project.

An increasingly popular trend in California are Custom Wine Cellar Garage Conversions. For this project, our senior wine room design consultant met with our clients at their home in Irvine to survey the site and explore several design options. Ultimately they made the decision to section off a full corner of their four-car garage and create both a wine storage room and an additional pantry mini wine cellar.

The client’s goal was to create a functional basic storage-orientated wine cellar with as much capacity as possible. In addition, we created a wine storage area in the pantry in the house to include a small capacity custom wine rack and a mini-cooled wine cellar to keep whites and sparkling wine chilled. The Custom Wine Cellar Irvine CA Garage Conversion project commenced in August and was completed in October 2011.

Wine Cellar Racks Built for Capacity Using Redwood

The custom wine racking itself was built in a really good-looking multi-toned premium redwood. As the goal of the room was maximum storage, we included diamond and square bins for bulk storage of wine and did not add display areas.

Although the racking in the garage was left unfinished, in the pantry we stained the wood to match the existing cabinetry.

This garage-based cellar is cooled to a constant 57 degrees Fahrenheit.

For this purpose, we installed an exterior wall mount self-contained Cellar Pro wine cellar cooling unit and vented it directly to the outdoors.

The cellar design includes space for lots of standard 750 ml bottles, diamond bins, and square bins for bulk case lot storage.

We also included a solid panel exterior rated Barolo Style Custom Wine Cellar Door made of Alder. This door was specially made to seal and help maintain a constant climate in the wine room.

Good 3D Design Drawings Make All The Difference

In our experience, it is very important that we provide our clients with a full package of three-dimensional drawings so that they can visualize what their wine cellar is going to look like before they commit to a project.

We then review all the details of the design and construction including such things as the cooling system, insulation, specialist options such as custom wine cellar doors, and all the finishing touches. This enables us to make sure that our clients know exactly what their cellar is going to look like when it is finished.

Wine Cellars Designed to Aid the Aging of Wines

In order to “age” the wine correctly we simulate the unchanging environment normally only found in underground caves. With Southern California temperatures in Irvine ranging from 22 – 110 Fahrenheit, admittedly these are the extremes, 47 – 85 Fahrenheit being the average range, given this fluctuation, it’s important to stabilize the wine storage area even though it’s built into the garage.

A boring four-car garage? Maybe, but one with plenty of space for a dedicated wine room. Leaving the storage area intact at the back of the garage we planned the dimensions of the conversion carefully.

In the first part of the project, the framing, electrical, and wall construction took shape. Surprisingly little of the garage space is lost.

Installing the cooling system is a simple job with this Cellar Pro Cooling unit. Mounted on an exterior wall and completely self-contained this Cellar Pro custom wine room cooling unit is a breeze to install.

As this wine cellar was to be built in a garage, first the room itself had to be built. Framing, Electrical, and the Cooling system were installed. Above you can see what the garage looked like at beginning of the project and how the basic infrastructure looked before the wine racking arrived. The refrigeration system is very easy to install straight into the wall at this phase.

Video Transcription Garage Wine Cellar Conversion

Greetings, and thanks for visiting Coastal Custom Wine Cellars in Irvine California.  I want to share some pictures and some design features of a California garage wine cellar.

First of all, let’s talk a little bit about the wine cellar design.  It is important to me that everyone that contacts us receives a three-dimensional wine cellar design package whether or not you are doing a custom wine cellar or you just have a small space where you want to utilize some of our 6, 7, or 8-foot series.

The custom wine racks themselves were built using good looking multi-toned premium redwood. Even though the general goal was capacity over wizzy features.

I want you to see how the room lays out.  I want you to know your bottle capacities.  This helps get you a great visual of how all the components tie together.  In this particular case, it is a garage wine cellar.

The folks had limited space to work within the home.  As they had a 4-car garage, we simply utilized or sectioned off a portion of that garage.  As you can imagine, there is not a lot of display, and the clients are looking for maximum storage.

Pop and Sizzle?

They did not need a lot of pop and sizzle, but we did work with them on a butler’s pantry area where we included a small mini wine cellar or refrigerator for their whites and their champagnes, and we created some storage that they can keep in their house for their everyday wines.

So as you can see, we actually took this cordoned-off area of the garage, and we framed it up using two of the existing walls, which are exterior walls, and we framed it, we sealed it, insulated it, created wine cellar door openings, and opening for the wine cellar cooling unit on the right side wall.

Here you will see the cooling unit actually in place in kind of a rough stage of the wine cellar if you will.  We utilized CellarPro.  I like CellarPro a lot because it is designed to vent to the outdoors in extreme climates, whether it would be in Georgia, Texas, or up in the North, where it gets very, very cold.

As you can see, Mike here is finalizing some of the details of the installation on the exterior wall of the wine cellar cooling unit.  We also created the wine cellar doors, standard size, roughly 36 x 80-inch opening, and we utilized an exterior rated door.

Barolo Style Wine Cellar Doors

The wine cellar door is very, very important in keeping your wine room sealed and insulated.  Not only do we include an insulated and solid core door, we also include the weather stripping around the perimeter, an automatic door bottom, the casement moldings, the stain, the finish, and the jamb.  It is a pre-fit door that will arrive and be ready to drop into the opening.

This particular style is called the Barolo wine cellar doors.  It is a solid panel door.  It is also available with a full dual-paned glass view, and there are many other doors that you can see on our website as well.

Redwood Wine Racks Perfect for the California Garage Wine Cellar

This is a picture of Mike installing the premium redwood wine racks.  As you can see, there is no entertainment area, so there is not a lot of display.  There is not a lot of pop and sizzle because they are not entertaining here.  This is a wine room designed for maximum storage, and we utilized diamond bins and square bins for bulk lots, case storage, and lots of single bottle openings.

All of these openings are 3 ¾” x 3 ¾”, and they will accommodate most of today’s marketplace.  Here is a picture of the cooling unit up near the ceiling on the right side wall as you enter.  Indoors, we renovated the butler’s pantry area, where we actually removed the far left and the far right cabinet drawer and installed the mini cellar here for white wines and sparkling wines, and then, we also created storage here for their everyday wines in passive storage.

We were able to match the wood and the stain for this particular area.  If there is a wine cellar conversion project that we can help you with, we would love to hear from you.  You can call me personally at +1 (949) 200-8134 or visit https://www.coastalcustomwinecellars.com/.

In conclusion, the Custom Wine Cellar Irvine CA Garage project showcases the effective use of space in a garage conversion, resulting in a practical and aesthetically pleasing wine storage solution. The well-planned design, high-quality materials, and efficient cooling system ensure that the wine collection is stored in optimal conditions. Providing clients with a 3D design package allows for better visualization and collaboration throughout the project. This innovative approach to wine storage demonstrates the potential of garage conversions in enhancing the value and uniqueness of a home while meeting the specific needs of wine enthusiasts.
