Beautiful Modern Wine Rooms with Innovative LED Light Panels

Andre Trabazos a custom wine room design expert from Coastal Wine Cellars, builds modern wine rooms in Newport Beach, California. His client for this project is a married couple who have different preferences when it comes to wine and alcohol. The wife enjoys wine, while the husband enjoys his spirits. Their differing preferences with wines and alcohol served as one of the inspirations for the final design of this modern wine cellar project. Continue reading to learn more.

Contemporary LED Lighting Innovation for Home Wine Cellars

Overview of the Modern Wine Room with Stunning LED Lighting

Overview of Modern Wine Room

Without even going inside this modern wine room, you can already see the beautiful presentation of the wine bottles.

If you use glass walls like what you see here, it will be easier to see through the collections inside contemporary wine rooms.  Two large panels are separated by a shelf and an area for either decanting wines or just a place to display an exciting art piece. Below both panels are shelves designed to hold champagne and alcohol bottles. Near the shelves are self-closing drawers and cabinets.

Striking Feature of This Modern Wine Closet: LED Light Panel

Every modern wine storage owner aims to present their valuable wine collection elegantly. The Coastal team stepped up a notch for this wine cellar project by installing an LED light panel. It’s a new technology that’s growing in popularity in home wine cellars. The lighted back panel is an innovative way of emphasizing the beautiful bottles in the wine collection. It releases a subtle glow behind the bottles – just the right amount of brightness to highlight the wine and alcohol bottles in the wine cellar.

Metal Wine Cellar Rack on LED Panels in Modern Wine Cellar

The subtle light radiating from the LED panel drastically enhances the presentation of wine bottles placed on the modern wine racking system.

The stunning wine cellar lighting starts with a standoff raised about an inch from the back. Then the team installed LED lighting to the standoff. And finally, to finish the ensemble, a 3/4 acrylic board was placed to sandwich the LED lighting behind it.

When you turn the lighting off, the panels have a subtle and subdued look. But, once you turn the LED lighting on, there’s a perfect mix of zest and elegance illuminating the bottles in the wine racking system.

The team also built a dedicated area for the husband to showcase his liquor collection. It also had LED lighting installed to highlight it. What’s great about this kind of lightings is that light passes through the bottle when the panel is turned on. It then enhances the delectable look of the colorful liquor bottles.

Contemporary Metal Wine Pegs for the Wine Racking System

To complete the modern and contemporary look, Andre’s team installed brushed metal wine pegs from Wine Cellar Designers Group (WCDG). These metal pegs are triple-deep. That means each pair of pegs can store up to three wine bottles. Bottles placed on these metallic pegs appear to float in the air from afar. This type of racking system also gives the wine cellar a very minimalist look. When the LED light panel is turned on, the glossy finish of these wine racks reflects light back to the wine bottles. This adds more appeal and prominence to the client’s wine collection.

An Obstacle the Team Had to Resolve While Building the Modern Wine Cellar

The area allocated for building this residential wine room is exposed to sunlight for much of the day. This can affect the temperature and humidity in the room and could ruin the quality of all wines stored in the proposed wine cellar. Furthermore, the couple wanted glass panels for the walls of their wine cellar. Glass tends to promote condensation inside the wine cellar due to temperature and humidity fluctuations oustide of the wine room.

Fortunately, the Coastal team made a quick and straightforward solution to deter condensation inside the modern wine room. The crew enclosed the glass panels with metal frames. These metal frames completely seal all glass panels. Additionally, the team filled the channel between the metal frame with insulation materials. This installation ensured that no condensation will ever occur inside the wine cellar. As an added benefit, the cooling system will work more efficiently because of the metal frame enclosure.

Glass on LED Panel Inside Modern Wine Room Shelf

LED strips were mounted on a channel to add emphasis to bottles placed on the traditional horizontal display shelves. The vase placed on the modern LED light panel has a similar effect. This combination of traditional and modern elements looks good in this wine cellar.

Split-Type Cooling Unit Was Installed to Efficiently Store the Contents of the Modern Wine Room

Like the glass panels, the team also had to install a cooling system optimized for the location of the modern wine cellar. A self-contained cooling unit won’t suffice for this kind of setup. For this project, the team installed a WhisperKOOL 7000 refrigeration unit. It is a split-type, ceiling-mount cooling unit. It is different from a self-contained cooling unit because the condensing unit and the evaporating unit are separate.

The great thing about this cooling system design is that you can place the condensing unit outside the wine room. This means that heat produced during the operation of the cooling unit is vented away from the room. The team did just that – they placed the condensing on the roof. Then, they concealed the rest of the cooling unit parts in the soffit. You can only see the vent of the cooling unit inside the wine room. The vent placement is in line with the opening of the wine cellar. This orientation adds more aesthetics to the wine cellar.
