Small Wine Cellars to Beautify Your Space: Rebuilding a Mold-Infested Wine Closet

If you are a wine enthusiast and have accumulated a large number of wine bottles over time, you might already understand the importance of having excellently-built small wine cellars. With today’s fast technology and innovation, building a wine cellar, no matter the design has become relatively easy, especially when you work with the right wine cellar experts. In this article, we put the spotlight on a small home wine closet that we renovated. From a small, mold-infested wine cellar to a stylish, contemporary wine storage closet, you can learn so much from this project!

Small Wine Cellar Renovation With Contemporary Design

Small wine cellars are as tricky and fun to build as large wine cellars. This closet may seem small, but we’ve done a great deal of work just to get it out of its mold-infested phase.

Small Wine Cellar Inspirations for Your Space

Through the years, wine cellars have evolved from dark storage units underground (with crates and barrels) to modern ones with glass-covered walls, LED lighting fixtures, and advanced cooling systems. At Coastal Custom Wine Cellars, we give you a good look at our best projects and wine cellar designs as an inspiration for what we have in store for your small, allotted space. We have a wide variety of small modern wine cellar designs that could fit your liking. Whether it’s for a small room in your house or a designated space in your commercial dining establishment, we can customize a wine cellar for all of them! With modern designs, our small wine cellar ideas mostly have white LED-lit walls, chrome or stainless-steel framed glass doors and windows, stainless steel pegs, wood racking solutions, and ceiling-mounted cooling systems to maximize space efficiency. We innovatively design racking patterns to create artistic tastes that meet your style as well. Through our existing designs, we draw in new and potential ones from clients who also want to have their own custom wine cellar their space.

Mold Prevention Solutions for This Small Wine Cellar

Whether you plan on rebuilding your wine cellar or still thinking of having one in your space, it’s always important to be informed of good and proper maintenance tips to help prolong the lifespan of the wine bottles and the whole wine cellar.

Glass Wine Cellar Doors for Small Wine Cellars

We chose oversized glass doors for this small wine cellar. While frameless doors are specifically stylish, you need an expert to tell you whether this type of wine cellar door can serve your wine cellar well.

Humidity plays an important key role in wine cellars. Too much moisture in the air can support the growth of molds, while too much dry air can desiccate bottle corks. As a side note, when bottle corks dry out, they can shrink and allow the wine to evaporate faster — something you don’t want happening.

For this wine cellar, Andre Trabazos and his expert team of wine cellar builders, was hired to remodel an infested wine closet. When his team arrived, the odd smell was very apparent, and you could literally see the green spores on the surface of the bottles. When they conducted an assessment, they found that there were cracks in the back wall, which allowed heat to enter, and the cooling system was relatively large for such a small wine cellar. It was clear that simply wiping the molds out and sealing the cracks with epoxy would not be an effective solution. So, the team had to demolish the entire cellar and reinstall better insulation, the right cooling unit, and the right wine cellar doors.

Wine cellar mold problems can best be prevented by keeping the wine cellar airtight. This involves always keeping an eye on cracks in wooden floors. When warm air is able to enter through cracks in the floor, it can alter the humidity of the entire wine cellar. Another thing is to make sure to waterproof the cellar in areas where leaking is most likely to occur, such as the cooling unit. Lastly, exterior checking should be practiced regularly to oversee any faulty linings and developing cracks and holes from the outside.

Rebuilding a Small Wine Cellar With A Modern Design

Rebuilding a wine cellar can mean two (2) things. First is because it’s old and may need to be renovated due to molds and other growth that dilapidated the materials. Second, you may want a new design for your wine cellar. If your reason for rebuilding your residential wine cellar is the first one, you might want to take advantage of your renovation by adding new touches and a more functional design. This way, you not only get new fixtures but a complete makeover of your small wine cellar. If you have an existing compact wine cellar and want to revamp the space, these existing designs from our team are the best way to give you a catch of the beauty you will get if you have us work on it. While we have a ton of modern designs, we can also customize them to fit your taste.

This wine cellar project is a good example of a highly customized wine cellar. From the insulation to the metal wine racking, marble tabletop, wine cellar doors, and wooden X-bins, everything was tailored to reflect the vision of the client.

Through collective effort, we can come up with small wine cellar designs that are trendier yet speaks about your style and comfort. We make sure we’re not only creating modern designs but help rebuild your wine cellar into what you want it to look like.

Stylish Wine Cellar Elements You Can Find In This Home Wine Closet

One of the coolest things about this wine closet design is the repurposed wooden backdrop. We used old wood in a clever way to give the space character and a unique vibe. The wooden backdrop adds warmth and a rustic charm that looks amazing behind the wine bottles. Each piece of wood has its own story, which adds a nostalgic and authentic feel to the whole design.

To add a touch of luxury and sophistication, we went with a sleek marble countertop. The marble brings a sense of elegance to the space and creates a visually stunning surface for wine-related activities. The smooth and shiny texture of the marble adds a refined element that makes the wine closet look even better.

We also came up with a clever way to hide the cooling unit register by using a wooden ceiling cove. This wooden cove not only conceals the functional part of the cooling unit but also adds a nice architectural detail to the wine closet. It blended seamlessly with the rest of the design, creating a cohesive and well-thought-out space that shows attention to every little detail.

To keep things modern, we placed the digital temperature control system inside the wine closet. This panel ensures that the temperature is at its optimal level for wines, which is crucial for maintaining the wine’s quality over time. With the digital controls, it’s easy to monitor and adjust the temperature, giving wine enthusiasts the peace of mind that their precious collection is well taken care of.
