A Gorgeous Modern Palm Springs Custom Wine Cellar with Incredible LED Lighting

Haste makes waste as a wise man once said. Indeed, doing things in a hurry could result in disaster. But Andre and his team have shown otherwise. They created a complete and functional modern wine cellar from scratch in 45 days.

An Overview of the Modern Wine Cellar with Innovative Lighting

This modern wine cellar has metallic door handles to complete the modern design ensemble.

Steve Pantalemon of Coastal Custom Wine Cellars built a beautiful modern cellar for a client in Palm Springs. The client had an existing wine cellar in Hollywood. But he wanted to transfer his wine collection to his new home in Palm Springs. The client tasked the team with having the wine cellar completed in the shortest possible time. Steve and his team fulfilled the client’s expectations and finished the project in 45 days. This was a record time for a project like this. Generally, it takes the team much longer than that time frame to finish a wine cellar project of similar size.

Part of the job was to transport the client’s wines from Hollywood to Palm Springs. This was no simple task. Wines are vulnerable to abrupt changes in relative temperature. The highest recorded temperature in Hollywood is 109°F and the lowest is 30°F. That is a huge difference if you compare it with temperature extremes in Palm Spring (the highest recorded at 123°F and the lowest at 19°F). Fluctuations in temperature during transportation could have ruined the quality of wines. And for this reason, Andre transported the client’s wine collection in a refrigerated van.

There used to be a bar in the designated area for the wine cellar project. The owner decided to convert it into a wine cellar. Andre and his team tore down the wall. Then, they applied several layers of spray foam in the wall cavity. It was done to increase the insulation capability of the wine cellar.

The team installed Vintage View wine pegs in the wine cellar. It further emphasized the modern look of the wine cellar. A WhisperKOOL ceiling mount cooling unit was installed. It’s the perfect unit to regulate the temperature inside the wine cellar. The modern wine cellar was enclosed with frameless glass panels that have seals. These seals prevent leaks and gaps within the wine cellar. LED bulbs were used for the lighting. The color and luminosity of the bulb can be adjusted from the panel outside.

Minimalist Modern Wine Cellar Racking System

Triple-deep wine pegs were installed in the center of the cellar. Bottles on the single deep wine racking system from the side appear floating in this angle.

Wine bottles in the wine cellar appeared to be floating in the air when viewed from afar. This eye-catching effect was achieved by installing VintageView wine peg racking system for the wine cellar. Along with the brick red back panel for wine racks, the wine looks elegant.

Triple deep wine racks were installed in the front and single deep wine pegs were used on the side. The wine racking system has a minimalist design. These wine pegs can contain the client’s roughly 500 wine bottle collection. It is amazing that the wine cellar can contain such a large number of wines, while still looking organized and spacious.

Vibrations or any disturbance could disrupt the delicate aging process for wines. But these wine pegs were installed securely to the back panel, meaning that they’re held very securely while still maintaining a minimal and beautiful look. The team kept this in mind during the design and then the construction phase of the wine cellar.

Minimum Visibility of the Wine Cellar Cooling System

The vent from the ceiling is the only visible part of the cooling system.

The team minimized the presence of the cooling system components. This gave the wine cellar a clean and minimalist look. They achieved this by placing the condensing unit in the soffit above the wine cellar. All the wires and the ducting system were also placed inside the soffit. The vent of the cooling system is the only visible part of the wine cellar.

It is advisable to maintain a temperature of 55°F to 57°F and a humidity of 50%-70% when storing your wines. Going below or beyond these numbers could ruin the quality of your wines. A spray foam application was done by the team. This enhances the insulation capability of the wine cellar. The wine cellar won’t be affected directly by temperature and humidity changes outside. Steve’s crew made sure that the client won’t have any problems with maintaining optimum temperature and humidity in the wine cellar.

Adjustable LED Innovative Wine Cellar Lighting

The color and luminosity of the wine cellar lighting can be adjusted by a simple swipe at the digital control panel outside.

The wine cellar lighting used for this project is a thing of both beauty and ingenuity. LED bulbs were installed all throughout the cellar. The owner can adjust the luminosity and color of these LED bulbs. This feature is quite fascinating. You can change the color scheme of the wine cellar in an instant. This innovative lighting complements all other modern design elements of the wine cellar.
