Custom Wine Cellars designed to serve the world's thirst for true taste
Reimagining a Living Room Wall: A Modern Glass Wine Cellar in Villa Park, CA

Tucked right into the wall, this modern glass wine cellar turns an everyday walkway into something a little more special—like a quiet moment with your collection on display.
In this Villa Park home, part of the living room wall was removed to make space for a 775-bottle modern glass wine cellar—clean, architectural, and thoughtfully engineered for a predominantly California red collection. Designed by Creative Wine Cellars and led by principal designer Manuel Del Toro, the project blends precision, restraint, and everyday livability.

Turning an Ordinary Wall Into a Meaningful Modern Glass Wine Cellar
This project began with a straightforward but transformative idea: remove part of the living room wall and replace it with a wine cellar.
The homeowners in Villa Park, CA had built a strong collection—about 90 percent red wine, much of it sourced throughout California—and they didn’t want it hidden in a back room. They wanted it visible. Integrated. Part of how they live and entertain.
Instead of adding square footage elsewhere, Creative Wine Cellars opened the existing space and designed a 775-bottle glass enclosure directly into the living area. The result feels architectural without being overwhelming.
“It wasn’t about making a dramatic statement,” says Manuel, principal designer at Creative Wine Cellars. “It was about designing something that felt like it always belonged there.”

Clean Framing, Clear Glass, Strong Structure
The cellar is enclosed with dual-pane, framed glass walls and a matching glass door filled with argon for thermal performance. Custom insulated 2×2 powder-coated steel frames outline the walls and door, giving the enclosure a crisp, structured presence.
Because this is a fully transparent installation within a primary living space, performance mattered just as much as aesthetics. Closed-cell spray foam insulation reinforces the thermal envelope, helping maintain consistent internal conditions while preventing condensation.

Warm lighting, clean lines, and rows of bottles—it’s the kind of setup that makes you want to slow down and actually enjoy picking your next pour.
With modern glass wine cellars, there’s no room to hide imperfections. Every alignment, seam, and transition is visible. Under Manuel’s direction, the framing was carefully coordinated so the structure reads as intentional and refined—not bulky, not intrusive.
It feels integrated into the architecture rather than added onto it.
Millesime Racking with Walnut Detail
Inside, the design centers around Millesime racking—anodized aluminum in black with walnut joints.
The black aluminum provides a clean, contemporary backbone. The walnut joints introduce warmth and texture, preventing the space from feeling too industrial. It’s a subtle contrast, but it changes the overall tone of the cellar.
The configuration was customized for a 775-bottle capacity, tailored to the homeowners’ predominantly red collection. Horizontal storage supports long-term aging, while a dedicated wall was designed specifically for 20 magnum bottles. Additional extra-magnum storage ensures the layout can evolve with the collection.
“When everything has a place, the cellar feels calm,” Manuel explains. “Organization is part of the design.”
That sense of order is what keeps the installation from feeling crowded, even at full capacity.

Lighting That Feels Natural in the Room
Lighting was handled with restraint.
LED strips are installed behind each vertical post, creating soft backlighting instead of direct spotlights. The effect highlights the racking system and gives depth to the bottles without glare or harsh shadows.
At night, the cellar glows gently within the living room. It’s noticeable, but not theatrical. It enhances the space rather than competing with it.
For many homeowners exploring modern glass wine cellars, lighting becomes one of the defining elements. The goal here wasn’t drama—it was warmth and balance.

From the outside, it feels like a sleek feature, but this modern glass wine cellar is fully functional and built to hold a serious collection.
Climate Control, Thoughtfully Concealed
Behind the clean lines is a fully engineered system.
The cellar operates on a 3600 RM Cooling System from LRC, selected specifically for the enclosure’s volume. Dual-pane argon-filled glass, spray foam insulation, and proper system sizing work together to maintain stable temperature and humidity levels for aging red wines.
Mechanical elements were also treated with care. An IronWine Cellars custom wooden grille was fabricated to conceal the cooling ducting. Rather than exposing vents, the grille integrates seamlessly into the overall design.
“It’s important that the mechanical components don’t distract from the experience,” says Manuel. “They should support the cellar quietly.”

A Collection Rooted in California
With most of the wines sourced throughout California, the cellar reflects a regional sensibility—Cabernets, Pinot Noirs, and blends meant to mature over time.
From the living room, the entire collection is visible through the glass. It becomes a subtle focal point—not flashy, not overstated—but clearly intentional.
That’s often what distinguishes well-designed modern glass wine cellars. They don’t demand attention; they earn it through proportion, clarity, and thoughtful detailing.
Designed to Live With, Not Just Look At
What makes this Villa Park project successful isn’t only the 775-bottle capacity or the technical precision behind it. It’s how naturally it fits into everyday life.

There’s something satisfying about seeing every bottle perfectly lined up—clean, simple, and easy to grab when the mood strikes.
The removal of part of the living room wall wasn’t about spectacle. It was about using space more meaningfully. Instead of a blank surface, the homeowners now have a fully climate-controlled collection that adds depth and character to the room.
It supports entertaining. It reflects personal taste. It will continue evolving as new bottles are added..
Sometimes, the most successful design move is simply recognizing the potential in a wall—and knowing how to transform it thoughtfully.
If you’re considering integrating a wine cellar into your own living space, this project offers a practical reminder: with the right planning and design expertise, a structural change can become one of the most meaningful features in your home.
